Houston TX Air Conditioning Troubleshooting
When spring kicks into full gear and we start preparing for summer, we’re also preparing our air conditioners to take on the summer temperatures and battle the higher humidity. When you turn on your air conditioner for the first time this season, or maybe even in the middle of the summer, and it’s not cooling like it should, there are a few things you can do for air conditioning troubleshooting.
From Thermostat to Motor
The first and easiest place to start your air conditioner troubleshooting is at the thermostat. Make sure that the unit is set to cool at a temperature lower than the actual room temperature. While this seems obvious, you’d be surprised how many people forget to switch to cool mode or turn the temp down lower than room temperature! Then check if air is coming out of the vents and registers. If there is not, are the fans running? If there is not action when you turn on the air conditioner, check to see if the breaker or circuit has been tripped. A simple reset could solve the problem.
If the air conditioner has power, then your problem could be with the thermostat, the air handler control board or the connection between the air handler and the thermostat. If there is air coming out of the registers and vents, is the air cool, warm, or room temperature? If the fans are running inside but not out, focus your attention on the unit outside. If your HVAC unit has a condenser pump and the reservoir is full, you may have a pump issues.
