HVAC Troubleshooting in Houston TX
An HVAC system is used to heat, ventilate and air condition a space. Living in Texas with hot, humid summers and cold winters, we need our HVAC systems to work at all times! So when any of these functions is not working properly, it’s time for HVAC troubleshooting. With these basic tips, we’ll help you get your system running again or at least narrow down the issues and streamline a service call to Kingwood Air Repair.
Start with the HVAC Basics
When your heating, cooling or ventilation seems off (or non-existent), it’s easiest and most efficient to start with the most obvious and visible components first. Most HVAC units include a furnace or heater, an air conditioner, air ducts and a fan connected to the ducts. A thermostat may be part of the system or a separate, aftermarket add-on that simply runs all of these elements and the system.
First and foremost, make sure your system has power and that the thermoset has good batteries, if they are needed. Check the circuit breaker if you are unsure. This seems obvious, but again, the most obvious and easy fixes are the best place to start. And sometimes just flipping the dedicated circuit on and off helps to reset the HVAC system and solve the problem (let the circuit sit off for a few minutes to a few hours). Then check the air filter to make sure it’s not too dirty. Changing out the air filter is essential to the best and most efficient HVAC functions, but is often a step that is forgotten about.
Beyond the Basics
Once you have ensured power and a clean filter, test the cooling and heating functions. Turn the thermostat to cool and adjust the temperature at least five degrees cooler than room temperature. Likewise, flip the thermostat to heat and adjust the temp to be five degrees warmer than room temp.
If the HVAC system is not heating or cooling to the desired temperature, or taking much longer than it has in the past, it’s time to call a professional like Kingwood Air Repair. Schedule a service appointment by calling (281) 441-4500 or simply filling out the online form.
